About Sacha Inchi
Sacha Inchi (Plukenetia volubilis), also known as the Inca peanut, is a climbing plant native to the rainforests of tropical South America, where it has been grown in Peru for around 3,000 years. The Sacha Inchi in ARK+ products is harvested in Taiwan. Its fruit is a star-shaped pod, usually with four or five lobes, that ripens from green to a deep blackish brown.
Inside the pod are the seeds, each with a pale kernel. Roasted, the seeds are eaten as nuts. Pressed, they give a light golden oil in which around half of the fat is omega-3, in the form of alpha-linolenic acid.
Figures from a published analysis of Sacha Inchi seeds in Grasas y Aceites. Values vary by harvest.
ARK+ brings Sacha Inchi to Singapore homes in everyday formats, delivered free islandwide.
No. Despite the nickname Inca peanut, Sacha Inchi is a different plant from the common peanut. It belongs to the spurge family (Euphorbiaceae), while peanuts are legumes.
